Those supporting the new Bike Plan will find the following information of interest (an initial e-mail of inquiry comes first, my response follows):

Subject: Bike Plan at the 11th hour

Dear Assembly Member Flynn,

There is a lot of news about the Bike Plan and questions coming from the Mayor’s office at the 11th hour. BCA is obviously very interested in the passage of the bike plan and would like to know whether the Plan will remain on the agenda for tomorrow’s Assembly meeting. If it is not, bicyclists will be quite upset. Given the recent remarks at Friday’s meetings concerning support for the Plan, bicyclists will be surprised and disappointed at the latest turn of events.  We would be very grateful if you could apprise us as quickly as possible as to whether the Plan will be on the agenda, whether there will be any public hearing tomorrow, and if not when the Plan will be heard by the Assembly.

Sincerely,

Brian Litmans

Mr. Litmans & Ms. Groth,

At our 11 am meeting this morning the mayor advised me that he would like for us to continue the public hearing on the bike plan until our meeting on March 23 so that his senior staff could complete their review.  That means people are welcome to testify tomorrow or testify on March 23 (but not both).  I noted that the bicycle community was interested in seeing this move forward soon but it would be unusual for the Assembly to deny an administration request of this nature.

I would suggest that BCA members withhold their testimony until the 23rd in case the administration proposes changes that your members wish to address.  I hope you find this information helpful, if not entirely welcome.

Regards,

Patrick Flynn

Now you know what I know!

Regards,

Patrick
