Downtown districts

Most folks are familiar with SoNo, the area south of Nordstrom along D Street that features trendy places to shop and meet.  On Thursday, July 3, the area received unique street signs that designate the area as the SoNo District.  Mayor Begich was kind enough to invite me to the unveiling of the new signage, which includes a total of four districts.  Besides SoNo they are:

  • An Art District along G Street, which features a number of popular art galleries.  Sign designs for that area were designed by well known Alaska artist Barbara Lavallee,
  • A Convention District, designating the area between the Egan and Dena’ina Convention Centers, and
  • The Historic District along Fourth Avenue near the old Federal Court House & Fourth Avenue Theater.

The next time you’re downtown I encourage you to check out the new signs!

Regards,

Patrick

P.S. Happy Fourth of July to all, and especially to the men and women who wear or have worn a uniform in service to our country!
